Promoting a safe environment of learning, equity and excellence is important for making students
feel welcome in the class and having a sense of importance in the learning process. Security and comfort bolsters
students confidence in their abilities, willingness to participate in the class, and a sense of pride in their higher achievement.
I studied the signs and effects of rebellious and bullying behavior and discussed my strategies
to combat this behavior in my classroom. I cited current experiences I have had with rebellion and physically aggressive
behavior in my room and how I handled each situation.
I also dissected the consequences of labeling based upon my personal experiences and drew comparisons between
and teacher's potential point of view and a student's potential point of view of the labelings. Knowing the consequences
of the labeling assists me in minimizing this behavior in my classroom.
I read Chapters 3 and 7 in "Classroom Management, Perspectives on the Social Curriculum"
(Powell, Richard R., H. James McLaughlin, Tom V. Savage and Stanley Zehm; 2001) and have written at least three research
reports listed below. I discussed various issues related to effective curriculum design with five classmates by
reading and responding to their reports as well as discussing my report.
