In this research alert, I will be discussing the effects that gender has on foreign language learning. I have discovered that women do have superior language ability compared to men.
This is due in part to the difference in the male and female brain processes used to learn languages. Gender stereotyping is still a major issue
and it transcends the boundaries of culture. We will also discuss how self-perception is an obstacle that women
need to overcome to be more successful in the academic environment and how motivation, transfer, and authentic activities play a key role in fostering success in the “FL”
classroom. I will talk about the “Blame Game” that is being played to gain support for both sexes
and about how Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) techniques are still less than desirable. I
will review how testing, extreme competition and outside risk factors can impact each gender’s classroom output and how texts have a hidden messages imbedded in their portrayal of each gender.
